The operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) today arrested the former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha.
They broke into his Maitama, Abuja residence after laying siege to it for nine hours.
After sporadic shooting to disperse a crowd supporters who came to show their solidarity, they were able to pick him up.
The anti-graft agency laid siege to his Maitama home from 11.30am, the entrance gate was barricaded with vehicles while heavily armed policemen were stationed at all strategic locations inside and outside the premises.
Briefing journalists before he was arrested, Okorocha described the siege at his residence as an ugly development that does not portray those involved in good light.
He alleged the Commission’s siege was to stop him from attending the APC presidential screening, which he said was ongoing, as no formal invitation was extended to him, prior to the EFCC raid.
EFCC alleged that Okorocha jumped administrative bail and had refused to honour its invitations.
Okorocha is accused of diverting public properties worth N2.9 billion while he was the governor of Imo State.
Recall that on January 24, 2022, EFCC filed a 17-count charge against Okorocha before an Abuja Federal High Court.
