A Former Nigerian Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tafa Mustapha Balogun, is dead. He died on Thursday at a hospital in Lekki, Lagos State after a brief illness.
Tafa was born on August 8, 1947 at Ila-Orangun in Osun State. He graduated from the University of Lagos in 1972 with a B.A. in Political Science, and joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 1973.
He was a fellow of the premier highest military institution in Nigeria, the National War College, served as the Assistant Inspector General of Police A.I.G Zone One, Kano, was later promoted to the rank of the 21st IGP of Police on March 6, 2002 replacing Musiliu Smith.
