The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has summoned Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, to its Jabi headquarters in Abuja concerning an alleged N585 million scandal.
This move swiftly followed President Bola Tinubu’s announcement of Edu’s suspension, conveyed through the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
A reliable EFCC source disclosed that Chairman Ola Olukoyede had earlier recommended the suspension to facilitate a thorough investigation.
The commission initiated the inquiry promptly after the President ordered an examination into the alleged diversion of the N585.189 million grant intended for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states into a private account.
