Federal Government has threatened sanctions against the management of National Assembly for breaching the provisions of the National Minimum Wage Act, 2019, signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sacked 20 members of the Cross River State House of Assembly who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress. In a judgement delivered by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, on Monday, the court held that the lawmakers needed to vacate their seats since they had abandoned the party which brought them to power. The judgement followed a suit filed by the PDP marked FHC/ABJ/CS/975/2021.

The Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State on Friday declared Section 84 (12) of the amended Electoral Act illegal and ordered the Attorney General of the Federation to delete the section. President Muhammadu Buhari had written the National Assembly asking them to delete the section as it would deprive political appointees of their right to vote and be voted for.
