The Education Ministry Receives from Niger Delta Ministry, Skill Acquisition Centre, Abaezi-Egbema, Imo State as Campus of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri
History was made on Thursday, 27th April, 2023 as the multi billion naira worth Skill Acquisition Centre located at Abaezi, Egbema in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State was officially handed over to the Ministry of Education to function as the second campus of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Umana Okon Umana said that the facilities in the institution have been upgraded and after years of fixing the place, it became necessary to put it into use through official commissioning and handover to the Ministry of Education as a second campus of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.
In his acceptance speech, the Minister of State for Education, Rt Hon Goodluck Nanah Opiah who was delighted to be part of the epoch-making event revealed that it was one of his happiest moments considering that it has become a new era in the life of the school that came into existence first as a teachers’ training school before the Niger Delta Ministry took it over and sunk billions of naira for the Skill Acquisition Centre program.
Opiah in his speech said “it’s a phenomenal event that deserves to be celebrated. We thank the President and Commander-in-Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari for nurturing”
According to the Minister who is from the area of the new campus of Fed Poly Nekede “Education world over remains key to meaningful developments, it enlarges one’s global view, grants unlimited opportunities to individuals and has remained a key instrument of curbing youth restiveness. It is my hope that the youths, men and women in Ohaji/Egbema and environs to take advantage of the presence of the new campus and develop themselves to the point of acquiring quality and functional skills as well as sound education
“Every educational institution requires maximum peace to thrive in teaching, research and community development. This is the tripod on which the academia stands. I urge the host community and indeed, people from this area to give this young campus all the support it needs. Accordingly, I anticipate that in the next couple of years, this young campus will have graduated prospective technocrats that would be a pride to this nation.
“I am happy to identify with this historic campus which is a veritable milestone in the education sector. I once again commend our dear leader, President Muhammadu Buhari for the timely approval he graciously granted for the transfer of this infrastructure. Worthy of commendation is the support and efforts of the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguish Senator Hope Uzodinma for his concurrence to the request for the transfer of this facility as the landlord”
The Minister of State For Education on behalf of his Ministry received the handover documents to set the stage for commencement of academic programs by the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede
The event witnessed the presence of the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prof Placid Njoku who represented the Governor and assisted in the Commissioning/Handover process saw the people of Egbema comprising traditional rulers, youths and women throng the location for the session.
