…Ukwueze encourages stakeholders to actively support the state government’s initiatives, stressing that collaboration is key to sustained development.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Enugu State, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, visited Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, representing Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. The visit included a comprehensive interactive session with local stakeholders, focusing on the ongoing Smart Green School and Type 2 Hospital projects, among other developmental initiatives by the Governor.
In his opening remarks, the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South LGA, Barr. Ugochukwu Ferdinand Ukwueze, expressed appreciation for Governor Mbah’s commitment to equitable development across the state. He described the projects as proof of the Governor’s dedication to improving the quality of life for residents of Igbo-Eze South LGA.
He commended Governor Mbah for fulfilling his campaign promises through impactful projects like the Smart Green Schools and Health Care Centres across all wards. He also praised the Governor’s infrastructure initiatives, including the dualization of the Ugwogo Nike-Opi Nsukka Road, and the planned repaving of the Beach Junction–Ibagwa Aka–Ette Road.
Highlighting local progress under the Progress Agenda, the Chairman mentioned rural road rehabilitation, reactivation of boreholes and transformers, and the reconstruction of the Enejere secretariat.
“Your Excellency, your commitment to equitable development across all corners of Enugu State is not just remarkable, it is transformative. We are witnesses to the power of intentional leadership. The Smart Green Schools and Health Care Centres in all sixteen wards of Igbo-Eze South are not just projects; they are investments in the future of our children and the health of our communities.
Through your visionary governance, we see a state where promises are not just made but fulfilled, and where every citizen is given a chance to thrive.
The dualization of the Ugwogo Nike-Opi Nsukka Road is a proof of your understanding of infrastructure as the backbone of economic and social development. In Igbo-Eze South, we are inspired by your example to embrace a governance model that prioritizes the well-being and progress of our people. Your focus on engaging indigenous contractors not only builds infrastructure but also empowers our people by creating jobs and boosting local economies.
With over 65 kilometers of rural roads under rehabilitation, we are connecting communities, fostering commerce, and enhancing security; mirroring the values of your administration. The reconstruction of the Enejere Secretariat symbolizes our shared commitment to creating environments that support productivity and service delivery. Your leadership has brought a new era of trust and collaboration between the government and the people, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Governor Mbah, under your administration, our tomorrow is no longer a dream, it is here, unfolding before our eyes.”
The Chairman also conveyed the goodwill message of Senator Okechukwu Ezea, representing Enugu North Senatorial Zone, who commended the Governor’s excellent performance and commitment to development. The Chairman concluded by expressing gratitude for the Governor’s focus on inclusive development and pledged unwavering support.
Prof. Onyia elaborated on the Smart Green School initiative, which integrates cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices to enhance education. He highlighted the importance of community leaders’ (councilors, town union presidents, traditional rulers and others) involvement in protecting these assets, noting partnerships with local security agencies and community-based monitoring systems.
“The Smart Green School and Type 2 Hospital projects represent a bold step by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration toward reshaping the future of the 260 wards in Enugu state. These projects are not just government initiatives; they belong to you, the people. As such, it is your collective responsibility to ensure they are safeguarded and maintained for the benefit of all.
Leaders in our communities; Councilors, Town Union Presidents, and Traditional Rulers, must step up to monitor these projects diligently. Protecting them goes beyond mere supervision; it involves fostering a sense of ownership among the people. Organize local security arrangements, partner with law enforcement agencies, and establish community-based monitoring systems to guard against theft, vandalism, or misuse.
These projects are a gift to your communities, but their success hinges on your actions; “ownership to ensure sustainability”. Protect them, nurture them, and ensure they serve their intended purposes. When communities unite in the spirit of cooperation and accountability, the results are always extraordinary.”
“These projects are for the benefit of your communities,” Prof. Onyia remarked.
Hon. Emeka Sunday Ajogwu, Commissioner for Special Duties, commended the Governor for his inclusive governance and called on stakeholders to ensure proper utilization and maintenance of the projects. He assured attendees of regular monitoring and evaluation to guarantee the success of ongoing initiatives.
Former State House of Assembly member, Hon. Erochukwu Ugwueze, also appreciated the Governor for his developmental strides in the council and urged him to continue his disruptive innovation in the area.
The event, attended by traditional rulers, Town Union Presidents, Councilors, and other stakeholders, concluded with pledges of continued support for the state government’s vision for holistic development in Enugu State.
