Potters Gallery Initiative is proud to be working with Dada Festival in UK and Jogja Disability Arts in Indonesia on Pen Pals Connected funded by the British Council’s International Collaboration Grants, which are designed to support Nigeria and overseas organisations to collaborate on international arts project.

    Who are we looking for?
Potters Gallery Initiative is looking for three Nigerian-based disabled artists to join this international collaborative project.

We would like to hear from artists who are keen to share their thoughts, feelings and ideas about their own practice and are interested in learning from other artists in our partner countries about their lives and work.

Potters Gallery Initiative would like to encourage applications from artists cutting across Nigeria who identify as disabled artists to apply.

We recognise that identities can intersect, or cross over, and welcome this. Potters Gallery Initiative wants to support artists to ensure your voices are heard and your stories are told on your terms.

    How will the project work?

If you are selected, you will be matched with one UK artist and one Indonesian artist and begin a digital correspondence in a format, or formats that suit your needs, about your life, your work and… well… wherever the conversation takes you.

This is an artist-led project and there is no expectation to produce a finished artwork. You will establish a regular and accessible digital communication channel within your group and you will meet as a group of nine artists online monthly to check in and share what you are working on. The focus is on sharing and learning. All artists will be able to participate in a series of ‘boot camp’ / introduction to workshops in areas such as creative access and equality awareness training.

There will be an opportunity to share elements of your digital correspondence project, or a collaborative digital work as part of each partner organisation’s festival or event in December 2022.

    What support is available?

You will be supported by Potters Gallery Staff and DaDa Festival staff, the other artists on the project, and DaDa Festival will work with you individually to ensure you have access to the practical support you need to take part in the project fully.

    Fee

This is a paid opportunity for artists. There is a fee of up to £3000 per artist available to cover time spent on the project. There is also a small travel and materials budget available where necessary.

    How to apply

Please apply with one of the following formats:
    • CV and/or covering letter
    • Video File (this can include BSL) – please keep recordings to five minutes or less.
    • Audio File – length of recording as above.

    Please include the following information:
    • Name.
    • Type of Disability
    • Contact details and preferred method of contact.
    • Info about yourself and your artform(s).
    • Why you are interested in this project.
    • What you will bring to the project.
    • How you will benefit from being part of this project.

Please let us know if you have any additional access requirements you need support with in order to apply or attend an interview, if called.

You are welcome to include images, links and short clips showing examples of your work.

Closing date for submissions – Tuesday, 5th April, 2022 by 5pm.

We will let you know if we would like to interview you by 5pm on Thursday 14thApril.

Interviews will be held remotely 19th April and successful artists will be informed by 25th April.

Interview panel will include Potters Gallery staff and an independent artist.
